Locking Addresses - Last chance to change them!
about 4 years ago – Tue, Apr 21, 2020 at 03:13:24 PM

I expect that the big printed books will arrive in the UK in a few days. That means it's time for me to lock addresses.

So go into Backerkit and check your shipping address to see if it's correct. I'll be sending the list over to Kixto later this week. This is most important if you're not in the USA, as we still have 4-6 weeks before the books arrive at my house. I'll send out another notice then for the USA crowd.

Shipping!

I have news!

Today I received word that the international copies of Hand of Asgard and Nordlondr Folk are on their way to Kixto in the UK. Given that from Watford to Crediton is less than a four-hour trip, they may well either be on their way, or have already arrived.

The UK adventure books should be on their way as of April 17, arriving on or before Thursday of this week.

So I'll pack up the international delivery list and get that information to Mark and Mike at Kixto. If things start going into the mail next week, folks in the UK should very quickly have their orders. Not-the-UK can be fast (a delivery to NZ once took about a week and a half), or not (anything to Italy has a significant random number generator attached to it; Brazil is worse).

Likewise, I got word (and a bill!) from Livonia Printing in Latvia that they're ready to ship my books to the USA, and the bill of lading to match. Bad news is they're forecasting a five or six week shipment time, so that's well into May, pushing final receipt into the first half of June.

FnordCon goes Virtual!

Virtual FnordCon: April 17-19 on Discord

With the world currently pressing the "pause" button, many conventions have been cancelled, Steve Jackson Games' FnordCon being one of them.

Originally scheduled April 3-5, it has been re-imagined as a Virtual Convention, to be held on Discord.

The schedule is firming up, and I'm sure SJG will have more to say about it in the coming days.

Gaming Ballistic will be there! I'll be on a few panels (TFT and GURPS), and my understanding is that there will also be some sort of dealers' room, with a dedicated channel for dealers, pinned links, and plenty of opportunity to interact with the creators.

In any case, put it on your calendars...and drop on by when the time is right!

Nordlond Saga Physical Pre-orders at FnordCon

As part of the FnordCon dealer room, I'm going to see if I can get the Nordlond Sagas physical books up and online for pre-orders. They will not (and cannot, for that matter) ship out before the main body of books, so no late-comer will get their physical product sooner than Kickstarter supporters.

If I can, there will be a 'secret link' that is only posted from FnordCon, so that you have to go to the con to pre-order the physical books. But my Woo-Fu is not strong (WooCommerce has . . . secrets) so I might just need to throw these open with "you'll get this stuff in May-June" prominently displayed.

Hope to see you at the Con!

Also: if you have read, and especially played, the books. PLEASE say something nice about them at the Con, on a Blog, on Twitter, Facebook, or wherever. Firstly, it's good for my ego (check out Dalin/Uzirath's commentary about running a game set in Nordvorn, and how easily information from Forest's End and Rosgarth weave in.

It's like the authors and I planned it or something.

Printing News

So I got confirmation that next week there should be a hand-off of my files to Mixam UK, and that the presses are running. Mixam usually has roughly a week print turn-around (sometimes faster) and maybe a week to ship (sometimes faster).

This means that the Rest of World orders will all be in the UK roughly at the same time, which puts us on a very good track to get that started.

Printing may be underway

Printing Adventures

I heard back from Livonia today, and there was a bit of a kerfuffle with the "self-ends," but no worries. This is a page that connects the book interior to the cover; as with Nordvorn and HoJ2e, this will be simple and blank. Yay for lay-flat bindings.

The tone and implications of the note suggested printing may already be underway - I've asked for clarification and schedule. "It turns out the files were not prepared as selfends, and nobody noticed till it was time for binding."

Nobody noticed till it was time for binding suggests that the interiors are already printed, maybe the covers too. Even so, if that's the case, we may be a bit ahead of schedule. Well, the revised one. I see "time to ship" was originally projected as Mar 31...so I suspect we're running 3-5 weeks behind.

UK Printing of Character Books

If this is the case, it's time to get Hand of Asgard and Nordlondr Folk both printed in the UK, and shipped to Kixto. I'll see if they're operational...and update you when I know more.

PDF for Sale; Print has to Wait

As noted in a prior update, I closed the Pre-order store when the files went out to print. This was both to keep things sane on my end, but also the increase in page count - vastly higher than what the Kickstarter was priced at - means that it became really important that I transfer print sales over to my website, even though they're not for sale there yet.

(It is possible that I will need to list them for sale, but "back-ordered," for reasons that should become clear soon. It's a fun/good thing, but I can't say anything yet.)
